Warner Premiere’s next DC Universe animated direct-to-dvd will be “Superman/Batman: Apocalypse”, and will hit Blu-ray and DVD on September 28. The movie is based on the second story arc, “The Supergirl from Krypton”, from Jeph Loeb and Michael Turner’s, “Superman/Batman.”

Interesting sidenote, DVD cover art by Marvel Artist, Clayton Crain (X-Force, Ghost Rider, Sensational Spiderman). More importantly, the third short film in the “DC Showcase” will feature Green Arrow, with Neal McDonough (Minority Report, Traitor, Captain America: First Avenger) as the voice of Green Arrow/Oliver Queen.

DC Universe Movies Cancelled? Part 2

by on Jun.24, 2010, under Comics, Film

In a recent interview promoting “Batman: Under The Red Hood”, Bruce Timm sets the record straight on DC Universe Animated Original Movies.

QUESTION: There’s been a lot of internet banter regarding the discontinuation of the DCU series based on quotes attributed to an interview in Calgary with you. True or false?

BRUCE TIMM: Kinda false. First of all, it wasn’t an actual one-on-one interview — quotes were taken out of context from longer answers I gave on a panel at the Expo. Bottom line: the DCU films are definitely continuing. We’ve got projects lined up for the next two years at the very least – lots of films in different stages of development and production. I know there are a lot of rumors circulating about future films. Some are true, some are not. I’ll tell you this much – anyone at our DCU/Batman: Under the Red Hood panel at Comic-Con will walk away with a very clear picture of the direction we’re taking the DCU animated movies in the coming year.

Mark Strong Sinestro Screen Test

Sinestro Concept Art

DC Comics writer Geoff Johns chats about seeing Mark Strong’s screen test as Sinestro in the upcoming Warner Brothers blockbuster, Green Lantern:

Finally, the big one.

Mark Strong.

Sinestro.

I just returned from New Orleans, where GREEN LANTERN is deep in production set for release in June 2011. GREEN LANTERN has an unreal crew and cast. Grant Major – the Production Designer on LORD OF THE RINGS. Martin Campbell – the director of CASINO ROYALE. And Mark Strong from SHERLOCK HOLMES and KICK-ASS as Sinestro. And while I was there, there was a test on Sinestro. How he looks. How he moves. An amazing test.

Unfortunately, that test is top secret.

I can say with confidence, however, if you like Sinestro you’re going to love Mark Strong as Sinestro. Powerful, regal, intimidating. Mark clearly has done his research and embraced every aspect of what makes Sinestro one of the greatest, most complex characters within the vast, epic universe of the Green Lantern Corps. I think you’ll be as psyched as I am when you finally see him.
