The Dark-er Side of The Moon

Taking place in 2018, Iron Sky tells the story of a secret Nazi base on the dark side of the moon. From what can be seen from the trailer and the website (http://www.ironsky.net) Iron Sky appears to be blending science fiction with action and dark comedy. It’s coming to us from Finnish director Timo Vuorensola and Blind Spot Pictures and it’s slated for release this coming April. It’s definitely one of the most outrageous sci-fi movies that I’ve ever heard of and the trailer certainly confirms that. Also, since it isn’t coming from a well known studio it has to be requested before it can be shown in a theater near you, so make sure to send a request on the Iron Sky website.
Star Wars: Even Better in 3D

Yesterday I went out to see the premiere of the Phantom Menace re-release and I have to admit that the movie still holds up 13 years after its original release, especially in 3D on the big screen. Since most of us have already seen the movie I’ll just talk about what looked good in 3D. For starters, the underwater Gungan city was breathtaking as it floated in one of Naboo’s lakes. That was followed shortly by Qui Gon and Obi Wan’s ride through the planet core, where the giant fish looked better than ever. The velocity and action was no doubt pumped up in each of the battle scenes and the lightsaber duels. Then just when I thought the movie couldn’t have been any better, I was completely blown away by how realistic the pod race felt in 3D. It was as if everyone in the movie theater was actually on Tatooine, watching the racers fly by. So over all the Phantom Menace in 3D is certainly something worth seeing.
The Marines Are Back

This new trailer for the upcoming Aliens game comes to us from Sega, the same producers who brought 2010′s Aliens vs. Predator game. The plot, written mainly by two of the writers of Battlestar Galactica, takes place right after the events of Aliens 3 and rumor has it that there may even be some connections to the upcoming Alien prequel Prometheus. Judging from the trailer I’d say it looks like an action-packed game and I’d recommend it to any fan of the Alien series. The only problem is that it’s being created by Gearbox Software, the company that brought the very disappointing Duke Nukem Forever. Look for it to hit the shelves in the fall of this year.

Continuing in their recent trend of Star Wars themed commercials, Volkswagen brings this spot to the renowned Superbowl advertising lineup. It’s a pretty catchy and entertaining take on the “Imperial March” that we know and love. I think that the At-At at the end of the video was a nice touch. Also, watch out for the other VW ad today, which features an all out recreation of the Mos Eisley Cantina from A New Hope.
