First Look: Tomar-Re From “Green Lantern”
by ilango on Aug.17, 2010, under Film
Recently we got a cool peek at Kilowog from Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern". Now we get a better look at Tomar-Re, unless you were one of those lucky people who was able to check him out in the teaser footage they showed off at this year's Comic-Con.
Tomar was a scientist on the planet Xudar before joining the Green Lantern Corps. He became a pivotal member of the Corps, training new members, like Arisia, and serving in the Honor Guard. He investigated reports of abuses of power by Sinestro on Korugar. He was close friends with Abin Sur, Green Lantern of neighboring sector 2814. He was also the first Lantern to meet Sur's replacement, Hal Jordan, and the two got along equally well. In the Post-Crisis timeline, that friendship is deepened further in that the rookie Jordan met him soon after being recruited. Jordan was brought to him by his power ring to help with his difficulties with handling the weapon and Tomar-Re not only guided the Terran to GLC headquarters for the optional training program, but also provided valuable emotional support during this difficult time."Green Lantern", starring Ryan Reynolds, flies into theaters on June 17th, 2011. Tarantino/Rodriguez “Grindhouse” Blu-Ray Details
by ilango on Aug.12, 2010, under Film
When Grindhouse was released in theaters, it was a double feature featuring Robert Rodriguez’s Planet Terror, Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, and a few faux trailers at the beginning and in between. When the films were released on DVD, they were distributed as separate movies, with the trailers omitted from both releases (with the exception of Machete). Last month it was finally revealed that the full Grindhouse release would hit stores on October 5th 2010.

by ilango on Aug.09, 2010, under Film
During Comic-Con Geoff Johns told us that we’d be seeing several of our favorite Lanterns, including the massive and awesome Kilowog. Well, today we get our first look at the being from space sector 674.
“Green Lantern”, directed by Martin Campbell, centers on a test pilot (Ryan Renolds) who’s granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.

Scott Pilgrin: Lucas Lee Movie Posters
by ilango on Aug.07, 2010, under Comics, Film
As you probably already know by now Chris Evans has a great role in the upcoming Edgar Wright film Scott Pilgrim Vs The World in which he plays Lucas Lee, Ramona Flowers’ Evil Ex boyfriend #2, who is a former pro-skater turned hilariously bad film actor. I love that they use the infmaous “Blue/Orange” movie poster motif!
McNiven and Millar’s “Nemesis” to be Directed by Tony Scott!
by ilango on Aug.07, 2010, under Comics, Film
Despite working off of an incredible premise (what if a Bruce Wayne was the Joker), the first two issues of the series have not lived up to hype. The series is still quite new, the third issue isn’t out until September, so there is still plenty of time for everything to be turned around. I’m still not exactly sure how they can turn this into a movie, aside from a few stunts, Millar’s writing has been pretty vapid.
20th Century Fox has acquired screen rights to the Mark Millar/Steven McNiven graphic novel Nemesis. Tony Scott is attached to direct and Scott Free will produce. The graphic novel was written by Millar, whose Wanted and Kick-Ass creations were turned into films, and whose Marvel Comics titles include the revamped X-Men, the Avengers series The Ultimates, and Civil War, the latter of which is DC Comics Superman: Red Son. Nemesis was published in March by Marvel’s Icon Comics imprint. McNiven is the artist behind Civil War and other collaborations with Millar.
Mark Millar appears to be this go-to guy of comic book properties outside of the DC/Marvel universe lately. He’s got a large writing resume that spans between popular comic series like Marvel’s “Civil War”, “Old Man Logan”, “The Ultimates” and co-created “Wanted” and “Kick-Ass”.
If Tony Scott is involved, my money is on Denzel for the role of detective Blake Morrow.

Review: Batman: Under The Red Hood
by ilango on Aug.01, 2010, under Film
The “Under the Hood” storyline was slightly controversial when it was first published – but that controversy hasn’t stopped DCU from making one of their best animated features to date, one full of great voicework and some spectacular Batman-style action.

Is HYDRA in Captain America: The First Avenger?
by ilango on Jul.30, 2010, under Film, Nerdery
At Comic Con, Captain America director Joe Johnston mentioned that Hugo Weaving’s character The Red Skull is working with HYDRA as well as with the Nazis, which fits in with the established Marvel Universe history. And during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Johnston displayed his phone, which is adorned with the HYDRA logo. The logo looks almost exactly like the one from the comics, but my understanding is that this one is specific to the film.
