McNiven and Millar’s “Nemesis” to be Directed by Tony Scott!

by on Aug.07, 2010, under Comics, Film

Despite working off of an incredible premise (what if a Bruce Wayne was the Joker), the first two issues of the series have not lived up to hype. The series is still quite new, the third issue isn’t out until September, so there is still plenty of time for everything to be turned around. I’m still not exactly sure how they can turn this into a movie, aside from a few stunts, Millar’s writing has been pretty vapid.

20th Century Fox has acquired screen rights to the Mark Millar/Steven McNiven graphic novel Nemesis. Tony Scott is attached to direct and Scott Free will produce. The graphic novel was written by Millar, whose Wanted and Kick-Ass creations were turned into films, and whose Marvel Comics titles include the revamped X-Men, the Avengers series The Ultimates, and Civil War, the latter of which is DC Comics Superman: Red Son. Nemesis was published in March by Marvel’s Icon Comics imprint. McNiven is the artist behind Civil War and other collaborations with Millar.

Mark Millar appears to be this go-to guy of comic book properties outside of the DC/Marvel universe lately. He’s got a large writing resume that spans between popular comic series like Marvel’s “Civil War”, “Old Man Logan”, “The Ultimates” and co-created “Wanted” and “Kick-Ass”.

If Tony Scott is involved, my money is on Denzel for the role of detective Blake Morrow.
