Is HYDRA in Captain America: The First Avenger?
by ilango on Jul.30, 2010, under Film, Nerdery
At Comic Con, Captain America director Joe Johnston mentioned that Hugo Weaving’s character The Red Skull is working with HYDRA as well as with the Nazis, which fits in with the established Marvel Universe history. And during an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Johnston displayed his phone, which is adorned with the HYDRA logo. The logo looks almost exactly like the one from the comics, but my understanding is that this one is specific to the film.

SDCC: Marvel Studios Captain America Red Skull Footage!
by ilango on Jul.25, 2010, under Film
The footage begins with the title card “Norway, May 1942″ we see told older men in a stone castle-like interior. The walls are shaking, dust and dirt falling. The wall implodes inward as a Nazi soldiers come rushing in, and examine a crypt in the center of the room. And then Johann Shmidt (Hugo Weaving pre Red Skull) makes his entrance from the huge hole in the wall. He orders the surviving old man to hand over “The Tesseract.” The man tells Shmidt that what he is looking for is just a legend. Shmidt responds, “then why go through so much work to conceal it?” The crypt is opened, and inside is the bones of a crusader holding a misty crystal white cube. Shmidt picks it up, and says “The Tesseract was the prize of Odin’s collection.” But he isn’t fooled. He throws it down on the ground, smashing it to bits. This is not what he was looking for.
He then turns his attention to the wall, which contains a large wood caving of Yggdrasil, the Norse Tree of Life. In the wall he finds a hidden compartment. Hell pulls it out and opens it. Blue glow fills his face. Shmidt says to the man “You haven’t seen this yet, have you?” The man responds, “It’s not for the eyes of ordinary men.”

Edward Norton NOT in the “The Avengers”
by ilango on Jul.10, 2010, under Comics, Film

HitFlix is reporting that according to Marvel sources, the company has decided that they are going to cast “an unknown” to play Bruce Banner and The Hulk in the film.
This means that Edward Norton will not be reprising his role as Bruce Banner and The Hulk. Norton was known at one time to be excited to replay the role and wanted to play the role in the upcoming ‘Avengers’ movie, which is being directed by Joss Whedon. At this time and moment, nothing is being said if this was all Marvels decision or Whedon had some say in the matter but we should hear more if anything is announced at SDCC in two weeks.
Maybe they’ll get Eric Bana to reprise the role of Bruce Banner.

The 5 Best (and 5 Worst) Marvel Characters at What They Do
by ilango on Apr.06, 2010, under Comics

“I’m the best at what I do and what I do ain’t very nice” says Wolverine at almost every opportunity. While unclear on what he actually does, this mission statement is abundantly clear that Wolverine is the best at it, whatever it might be. Since being a superhero should probably be considered “very nice” — I mean, it involves beating bad guys but also rescuing people, thwarting evil, et cetera — we can technically rule that out.
Many Marvel heroes aren’t just defined by their superhero status or their powers; they’ve also got other interests and aspects of their personality that define them far more than their costumes. For instance, Nightcrawler is a teleporting mutant and member of the X-Men, but he is also a priest. Maybe. Actually, that’s kind of a confusing subject. But the point is, many of the Marvel superheroes have jobs outside of their duties as superhumans — some of whom are good at them, some of whom aren’t. So this list is a look at who you might want to hire and who you should stay away from if you suddenly ended up running a temp agency in the Marvel Universe.
