First Look: Young Justice

by ilango on Aug.15, 2010, under Nerdery

During the Batman: Brave And The Bold panel, creators Brandon Vietti and Greg Weissman got a chance to show off some character designs and footage from their upcoming animated series Young Justice, as well as dish on a few of the details.

We saw the footage, whose animation style resembles previous animated DC efforts like Superman/Batman: Public Enemies, and takes a more grounded and realistic approach to the DC Universe. The Young Justice team will operate as something of an undercover unit designed to combat the increasingly efficient super-villains, as the Justice League's high profile prevents them from stopping more and more criminal. The cast includes the following;

  • Robin/Dick Grayson - Jesse McCartney
  • Kid Flash/Wally West - Jason Spizak
  • Aqualad - Khary Payton
  • Superboy/Connor Kent - Nolan North
  • Miss Martian - Danica McKellar

The Justice League, 16 members large, will play an important role in the series.  Rob Lowe will voice Captain Marvel, an important recurring role. Also appearing are Batman (Bruce Greenwood), Aquaman (Phil LaMarr), Green Arrow (Alan Tudyk),  Wonder Woman, Superman, Hawkgirl, Hawkman, Martian Manhunter, Hal Jordan, Flash, Zatara, Captain Atom, Black Canary, John Stewart, and Red Tornado.

DC Universe Movies Cancelled? Part 2

by ilango on Jun.24, 2010, under Comics, Film

In a recent interview promoting “Batman: Under The Red Hood”, Bruce Timm sets the record straight on DC Universe Animated Original Movies.

QUESTION: There’s been a lot of internet banter regarding the discontinuation of the DCU series based on quotes attributed to an interview in Calgary with you. True or false?

BRUCE TIMM: Kinda false. First of all, it wasn’t an actual one-on-one interview — quotes were taken out of context from longer answers I gave on a panel at the Expo. Bottom line: the DCU films are definitely continuing. We’ve got projects lined up for the next two years at the very least – lots of films in different stages of development and production. I know there are a lot of rumors circulating about future films. Some are true, some are not. I’ll tell you this much – anyone at our DCU/Batman: Under the Red Hood panel at Comic-Con will walk away with a very clear picture of the direction we’re taking the DCU animated movies in the coming year.

E3: “The DC Universe Online” Trailer

by ilango on Jun.15, 2010, under Games

The moment you step into the world of DC Universe Online, you will experience high paced action and physics unlike anything ever seen before, and this trailer is just a taste of what lies ahead for you! Our goal at Sony Online Entertainment in Austin is to combine a fast paced action combat experience that console gamers expect with a huge online world supporting thousands of players…

This trailer also shows the tremendous influence Jim Lee has brought to the table working as the Executive Creative Director on this title – his edgy take on the DC Universe has been transformed from the traditional 2D comic book medium into an immersive 3D interactive environment where you become the next legend! Between now and our release in November, stay tuned for tons of exciting releases from the team – we can’t wait to show you what is up our sleeves!

My only complaint with the footage is the characters look really stiff, I’m guessing the Joker never closes his mouth.
