First Look: Tomar-Re From “Green Lantern”
by ilango on Aug.17, 2010, under Film
Recently we got a cool peek at Kilowog from Martin Campbell's "Green Lantern". Now we get a better look at Tomar-Re, unless you were one of those lucky people who was able to check him out in the teaser footage they showed off at this year's Comic-Con.
Tomar was a scientist on the planet Xudar before joining the Green Lantern Corps. He became a pivotal member of the Corps, training new members, like Arisia, and serving in the Honor Guard. He investigated reports of abuses of power by Sinestro on Korugar. He was close friends with Abin Sur, Green Lantern of neighboring sector 2814. He was also the first Lantern to meet Sur's replacement, Hal Jordan, and the two got along equally well. In the Post-Crisis timeline, that friendship is deepened further in that the rookie Jordan met him soon after being recruited. Jordan was brought to him by his power ring to help with his difficulties with handling the weapon and Tomar-Re not only guided the Terran to GLC headquarters for the optional training program, but also provided valuable emotional support during this difficult time."Green Lantern", starring Ryan Reynolds, flies into theaters on June 17th, 2011. The official movie synopsis
In a universe as vast as it is mysterious, a small but powerful force has existed for centuries. Protectors of peace and justice, they are called the Green Lantern Corps. A brotherhood of warriors sworn to keep intergalactic order, each Green Lantern wears a ring that grants him superpowers. But when a new enemy called Parallax threatens to destroy the balance of power in the Universe, their fate and the fate of Earth lie in the hands of their newest recruit, the first human ever selected: Hal Jordan.
Hal is a gifted and cocky test pilot, but the Green Lanterns have little respect for humans, who have never harnessed the infinite powers of the ring before. But Hal is clearly the missing piece to the puzzle, and along with his determination and willpower, he has one thing no member of the Corps has ever had: humanity. With the encouragement of fellow pilot and childhood sweetheart Carol Ferris (Blake Lively), if Hal can quickly master his new powers and find the courage to overcome his fears, he may prove to be not only the key to defeating Parallaxhe will become the greatest Green Lantern of all.
Mark Strong Sinestro Screen Test
by ilango on Jun.19, 2010, under Film
DC Comics writer Geoff Johns chats about seeing Mark Strong’s screen test as Sinestro in the upcoming Warner Brothers blockbuster, Green Lantern:
Finally, the big one.
Mark Strong.
Sinestro.
I just returned from New Orleans, where GREEN LANTERN is deep in production set for release in June 2011. GREEN LANTERN has an unreal crew and cast. Grant Major – the Production Designer on LORD OF THE RINGS. Martin Campbell – the director of CASINO ROYALE. And Mark Strong from SHERLOCK HOLMES and KICK-ASS as Sinestro. And while I was there, there was a test on Sinestro. How he looks. How he moves. An amazing test.
Unfortunately, that test is top secret.
I can say with confidence, however, if you like Sinestro you’re going to love Mark Strong as Sinestro. Powerful, regal, intimidating. Mark clearly has done his research and embraced every aspect of what makes Sinestro one of the greatest, most complex characters within the vast, epic universe of the Green Lantern Corps. I think you’ll be as psyched as I am when you finally see him.
DC Animated Projects Canceled
by ilango on Apr.28, 2010, under Comics, Film

Apparently, the excellent Green Lantern: First Flight and Wonder Woman DC Universe movies sold so poorly that sequels for both were canceled, along with… well, pretty much everything else, according to Bruce Timm. That includes an unannounced Aquaman , Batgirl: Year One and Teen Titans: Judas Contract movie, all of which, if they were even half as good as GL and WW, would have been great. Oh, and for kicks Timm says he won’t be making movies of either Batman: Hush or The Long Halloween either, just so you know. I have no idea what this leaves other than the Batman: Under the Red Hood movie, if anything.
