by on May.27, 2011, under Nerdery

The Avengers is shooting now, and we know a few things about the film. The official roster of heroes has been known since Comic Con last year (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, Hawkeye, Black Widow, Nick Fury, and the Hulk) and we know that Loki (Tom Hiddleston), is the main Villain. Now here is were things get tricky, last summer, Marvel teased us with the image above at SDCC. Now any Marvel Zombie knows this ain't Odin's oven mitt, it belongs to a certain purple death lovin gloved one (ayo!).

Superman: Michael Shannon Is The New General Zod

by on Apr.11, 2011, under Film

The Man of Steel now has an enemy: Warner Bros. announced Sunday that they’ve locked in the Oscar-nominated Michael Shannon to play General Zod opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman in the reboot.

Coming off the dispelled rumor that the role had gone to Viggo Mortensen, the role has been locked-in for the actor who’s appeared in television and film, such as Boardwalk Empire, The Runaways, and Revolutionary Road. Of course, this prominent role in the 2012 reboot will be nothing short of a breakthrough on his resume.

With the confirmation of Shannon for the role of Zod, also comes the additional benefit of the official acknowledgment of the film’s villain. He will now get set to take on Henry Cavill’s Superman in a re-imagining of the Superman lore that’s sure to be action-packed.

Director Zack Snyder comments:

“Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.”

Michael Shannon will now carry on the live-action legacy of the exiled Kryptonian war criminal made iconic by the masterful performance of Terence Stamp in 1981′s Superman II. It will be interesting to see what he adds to that legacy when he tackles the megalomaniacal super-powered elitist.

Superman: Man of Steel is set to hit sometime in December of 2012.

First Look: The Red Skull from “Captain America”

by on Mar.03, 2011, under Film

Paramount Pictures and Marvel Studios have debuted a new photo of Hugo Weaving as Red Skull in Captain America: The First Avenger at Entertainment Weekly. In my opinion he looks totally bad-ass, my only concern is the nose looks a bit like “Swamp Thing”.

Opening in 3D and 2D theaters on July 22, the action adventure stars Chris Evans, Hayley Atwell, Weaving, Sebastian Stan, Toby Jones, Samuel L. Jackson, Dominic Cooper, Tommy Lee Jones, Stanley Tucci and Neal McDonough.
