Joe Carnahan Definitely Directing ‘Nemesis’, Says Creator Mark Millar

Joe Carnahan Definitely Directing ‘Nemesis’, Says Creator Mark Millar:

I recently picked up the hardcover edition of Kick-Ass 2 and in the introduction written by film director Joe Carnahan, he explained his online friendship with comic book creator Mark Millar.  He also mentioned that unbeknownst to Millar, Carnahan was working on adapting one of his comic creations entitled Nemesis.
Here is Carnahan’s story:
“Someone reposted (I fucking flat-out refuse to use the word ‘Retweet’ for fear that my balls will spontaneously detonate) a Millar passage mentioning his love of The A-Team as well as the fact that he had named a character in Nemesis ‘Carnahan’ after yours truly.  What Mark didn’t know, was that I, along with my brother Matt, had been charged with adapting Nemesis for Fox but it had gone sideways under the stewardship of this conniving shithead who singlehandedly torpedoed the project… for the time being.”
That was dated back in March of this year.
This weekend Millar took to his MillarWorld message board to relay the following update:
“Shot straight from a wedding in Manchester last week to the City of Angels and plunged straight into some studio biz on the Nemesis movie. Mighty Joe Carnahan is directing (from a script by he and his brother Matthew), but this much you already know. Fox wanted us to get in the same room for the first time and really hash this out, which was exciting. Joe has a really brilliant take on this and Matt and he are going to take things from here so I’m really happy. Absolutely no casting has been done formally although you can google the MTV interview from last January where he and Sir Liam Neeson are chatting about it. More news as it happens.”
This isn’t new news, but it’s good word that Nemesis is back on its feet.
Carnahan is currently developing a Death Wish remake for MGM.  He most recently left Fox’s Daredevil reboot.  His take on that character can be seen in a sizzle reel he created to pitch to studio executives.
