‘Youngblood’ Movie Back on Says Liefeld

Here’s a piece of good news*, it seems that things are back on track for bringing a live-action adaptation of Rob Liefeld‘s Youngblood to the big screen

*Maybe considered sarcasm depending on your feelings about Youngblood.

Liefeld had this to tweet today about recent developments concerning the film:

Last report was that the Youngblood feature film was proceeding with Liefeld in the director’s chair with Hollywood power broker* Brett Ratner producing. “Most of the great graphic novels are gone, and Youngblood is one of the few comic books left with tentpole potential,” Ratner told Variety in 2009. “It was a real personal passion project for me, and a lot of people wanted [Youngblood], but the amazing thing about the guys at Reliance is the speed with which they’re able to move.”

*Also sarcasm

Youngblood was one of the founding books of Image Comics first published in 1992. It follows the adventures of a high-profile superteam sanctioned and overseen by the United States government. The members of Youngblood include Shaft, a former FBI agent and archer whose bow uses magnets to propel its arrow instead of a string; Badrock, a teenager transformed into a living block of stone; Vogue, a Russian fashion model with purple-and-chalk-white skin; and Chapel, a government assassin.

No word on what effects house will be charged with taking the arms, legs and feet of the live action performers and contorting them to proper Liefeld proportions, but maybe that’s what Rob’s great news today was about.
